About Dr. Suzanne Alkul

Suzanne Alkul, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon serving patients at the Fulshear, Vintage Park and River Oaks locations. She is an expert in surgical and non-surgical treatment of skin cancer and removal of benign growths. She is passionate about treating the skin, and carefully follows her patients from the first visit to the final cure. Dr. Alkul completed a preliminary year in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a dermatology residency at Baylor College of Medicine. She is currently pursuing advanced training as a Mohs Micrographic surgeon and serves on the board of directors for the Women’s Dermatologic Society.

 

Dr. Alkul is a native Texan, born and raised in Lubbock. She received her B.S. in biochemistry and M.D. from Texas Tech University. As an undergraduate student, she maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated summa cum laude as Valedictorian of her class. She first discovered her passion for dermatology and skin surgery during medical school while providing high quality skin care at no cost and securing generous grants for medication and high-tech dermatological equipment for the Lubbock Impact Free Clinic. During her time in medical school, Dr. Alkul played a vital role as a Dean’s ambassador and Admissions Committee member, selecting and shaping future generations of physicians. She also served as president of the prestigious honor society Alpha Omega Alpha and was nominated and selected by her peers for the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

 

Dr. Alkul is an innovator in her field, and attends local and national dermatology conferences to stay current on the newest skin cancer treatment and advances in surgical reconstruction. She has authored numerous articles and presents her research at these meetings. She has done research on post-operative complications and how they are influenced by pre-operative hypertension and anticoagulation. She has also researched ways to reduce the pain and anxiety associated with anesthetic injections prior to surgery in order to maximize patient comfort. 

 

In her spare time, Dr. Alkul enjoys exploring local farmer’s markets and coffee shops, baking scones with her family, and keeping up to date with Formula 1 racing .
