Frequently Asked Questions
What causes spider veins?
Veins that resemble a spider’s web or have a squiggly line appearance can become visible due to vein malfunctioning, causing the accumulation of blood within them. While anyone can experience spider and varicose veins, certain factors increase the risk, including:
- Pregnancy
- Being Overweight
- Genetics
- Female Gender
- Older age
- Hormone changes
- Prolonged standing or sitting
- Sun damage
At Elite Dermatology, our treatments, both invasive and non-invasive, are designed to eliminate unsightly spider and varicose veins, restoring the beauty of your complexion.
What causes varicose veins?
Varicose veins, also known as varicosities, are enlarged and twisted veins located just beneath the skin, predominantly affecting the legs. The development of varicose veins is often linked to an increase in blood pressure within the veins, which can be attributed to factors such as aging, pregnancy, excess weight or obesity, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, and a sedentary lifestyle. Individuals with a family history of varicose veins may face a higher risk of experiencing this condition.
What are my vein therapy treatment options?
Depending on the type and severity of visible veins, your Elite Dermatology provider might recommend one of the following vein treatments:
Laser treatment
Uses laser energy to treat damaged veins, causing them to fade over time. This painless treatment also stimulates collagen and elastin production for younger-looking skin.
Intense pulsed light (IPL)
Targets specific veins using light energy, damaging them and rerouting the blood to healthier veins. Patients will not feel any discomfort with this treatment option and there is no downtime.
Vbeam ® Laser
The system employs pulse dye laser technology, delivering a potent yet gentle burst of light precisely to targeted skin areas. This light is absorbed by blood vessels eliminating specific imperfections. The immediate results are experienced by the majority of patients, and its clinical efficacy extends across various skin types.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure where a solution is injected into the targeted vein using a fine needle. This specialized solution induces scarring within the vein, redirecting blood flow through healthier vessels. As a result, the treated vein collapses and gradually fades. Typically, within a few weeks, noticeable improvement is observed, although complete disappearance may not be immediate. Full results may take a month or more to manifest, and sclerotherapy typically requires 2-3 treatments for optimal outcomes.
Is vein therapy treatment right for me?
To determine your candidacy for vein therapy treatment, our dermatology providers review your medical history and assess your skin. In some cases, an ultrasound may be recommended for a more in-depth evaluation of vein health and to tailor a suitable treatment plan.
How many vein treatments will I need?
Achieving the most desirable, long-lasting outcome may require multiple vein treatments. The number of sessions varies based on individual needs, and your provider will provide a detailed overview of expectations for each treatment session.
