Hair Transplant Q&A

What is a hair transplant?

Hair transplant surgery involves transferring hair follicles from one part of the body to areas experiencing hair loss in order to achieve natural-looking results with minimal scarring. The procedure is typically performed using local anesthesia and has minimal downtime or risk. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, which have been shown to stimulate healthy hair growth, are another option that is minimally invasive and requires no anesthesia or downtime

Why do you want Hair Restoration?

A youthful hairline can boost men's confidence and make them feel more youthful. Hair loss can be a source of embarrassment for women and may have negative impacts on their personal and professional lives.

What procedures are often performed along with Hair Restoration?

Hair transplant surgery is often performed on its own, but it can be combined with other treatments such as PRP, medication to help prevent hair loss, or other surgical procedures to achieve a more youthful overall appearance. These treatments may be recommended for patients who have benefited from hair restoration.

Elite Dermatology and The Oaks Plastic Surgery Philosophy on Hair Restoration?

The surgeons at The Oaks Plastic Surgery, including Dr. Nandi Wijay, learned hair transplant techniques from an innovative leader in the field. They prioritize natural, subtle restoration of a youthful hairline, which involves carefully placing individual hairs to create a natural-looking result. This process can be time-consuming, but the surgeons believe it is worth the effort. They take care to place the hairs precisely to avoid a uniform, artificial appearance, as hair does not naturally grow in straight rows.

What can you expect during your initial consultation?

If you are considering hair restoration in Houston, Texas, an appointment can be made with Dr. Wijay. You can expect the initial consultation to last an hour or more. In your consultation, your surgeon will:

  •  Listen to your specific complaints and goals.
  • Perform a thorough examination, focusing on your individual anatomy.
  • Discuss recommendations regarding surgical or nonsurgical techniques that may help you achieve your goals.
  • If surgery is the right option for you, your surgeon will discuss the details of the surgical procedures that are offered, and which approach is right for you.
  • If PRP is the right option for you, this treatment can be scheduled as a quick outpatient office procedure.
  • Preoperative photographs will be taken.
  • The risks and benefits of surgery or procedure will be thoroughly outlined for you.
  • You will be given ample opportunity to ask questions from both our physicians and staff regarding hair restoration and any other surgical or nonsurgical procedures you may be interested in.
  • You will be sent home with a packet of information regarding the procedure including a detailed consent form and instructions for before and after hair transplant surgery or PRP injection.

What you can expect on the day of surgery?

On the day of hair transplant surgery, the surgeon will meet with the patient in the preoperative area to address any last-minute questions or concerns. The surgeon will make preoperative markings and perform extensive checks to ensure high-quality care
and safety. During the procedure, the team will pay close attention to detail to ensure a good result. Following the surgery, the patient will be dressed in a surgical dressing and will be able to go home.

For PRP hair restoration treatments, the patient will be welcomed at The Oaks Plastic Surgery Clinic and taken to the procedure room. To minimize discomfort, numbing cream may be applied to the area where injections will be given in the hairline. The patient's blood will be drawn and processed to obtain PRP, which will then be injected into areas experiencing hair loss.
