What is Botox?

Botox is a neuromodulator that's injected to smooth out wrinkles. It's a form of botulinum toxin type A, but it's injected in very small amounts that don't affect the rest of your body.

The expression lines in the face deepen over the years, and Botox can smooth them out again. It's ideal for three main areas:

• The forehead
• Between the eyebrows
• Around the eyes (crow's feet)

Botox helps you recapture a more youthful look, and it's very natural looking. Nobody will know that you had Botox — but they might tell you how great you look. Botox injections take effect within about 3-7 days.

What is Dysport?

Dysport, like Botox, is a botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator that's used for wrinkle treatment. As with Botox, Dysport is ideal for treatment in the following areas:

• Forehead lines
• Between the brows
• Crow's feet

While Dysport is very similar to Botox in both composition and effects, it's diluted more. This means that you'll need more units of Dysport during treatment.

However, since units of Dysport cost less than units of Botox, the price often ends up being about the same as Botox. Dysport takes effect within about two days.

How do Botox and Dysport work?

Botox and Dysport both intercept the signals between your muscles and brain. When your brain tells a certain facial muscle to contract, the muscle doesn't receive the message and therefore stays smooth. This means that the wrinkles that come from muscle contractions aren't able to form.

How long do Botox and Dysport last?

On average, Botox and Dysport last for around 3-4 months. The product leaves your body gradually. You can maintain your results long term by returning to Elite Dermatology for treatments every three months.

Do Botox and Dysport have downtime?

No, Botox and Dysport don't require downtime. The treatment takes only around five minutes, and you can return to your day immediately. The only restrictions are that you should avoid the following things for a few hours after treatment.

• Laying down
• Exercise
• Rubbing your face
