Andrew Fischer, MD, FAAD, serves patients in Vintage Park, Texas, as a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist at Elite Dermatology. He offers medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic services, and also serves as the dermatopathologist for the practice. Additionally, he works with Dr. Wijay on hair restoration.
Dr. Fischer was born in Omaha, Nebraska, where he lived through high school. From these Midwestern roots, he learned the value of hard work and dedication and also had ingrained upon him the ever-optimistic attitude of Nebraska Cornhusker football fans.
Dr. Fischer moved to Houston, Texas, to attend Rice University. There, he met Dr. Rizk, and both went on to graduate magna cum laude (top 15% of the graduating class) with degrees in biochemistry and cell biology. Dr. Fischer was also inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and was a member of the president’s honor roll each semester.
He then obtained his medical degree, with honor, from Baylor College of Medicine, while taking advantage of the vast and diverse training opportunities in the Texas Medical Center.
During his formal education, he developed an interest in global health and received funding to work on projects internationally in Nicaragua, Argentina, and India. This also spurred on his love of traveling, and he has now been to over 30 countries on five continents. He has also been to 43 of the 50 US states and eagerly hopes to see them all!
He then went on to complete his internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (an affiliate of Stanford) in San Jose, California, and then to Denver, Colorado, to complete his dermatology residency at the University of Colorado, where he was selected to serve as chief resident in his final year. In Colorado, he took advantage of the beautiful outdoors, frequently hiking and skiing. He summited several 14,000 ft peaks and has skied at most of the major ski resorts in the state. This continues to be one of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his comprehensive dermatologic training in residency, he developed a particular interest in dermatopathology (interpreting skin biopsies) and went on to complete a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with several internationally recognized faculty members.
He is a member of several national organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatopathology. He has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, presented his work at national meetings, and continues to remain involved in academic scholarship.
Dr. Fischer believes in offering evidence-based practices to his patients as well as providing them with the knowledge needed to empower them to make the best decision to achieve their goals.
He is pleased to be in Houston with his wife and daughter.
